Welcome to this comprehensive urology website, launched by Dr.K. Ramesh, consultant urologist at Apollo hospitals, Greams road, Chennai.
Dr. Ramesh has returned back after extensive training and experience abroad(see profile).
His aim in starting this website is to provide a simple, informative and interactive, patient oriented urology website so that patients take an active part in decision making regarding their condition and consequent treatment.
Urology is the medical specialty that deals in the medical and surgical diseases of the kidneys and urinary tract, which include the ureters, bladder and urethra, and the male reproductive system and genitalia.
In all specialties, there are certain equipments or instruments that are absolutely essential to maintain a decent practice, like an ECG machine for Cardiologists. etc. The Urologist's usual armamentarium is quite extensive and expensive. As a minimum a Urologist needs a cystoscope and resectoscope set. Urologists use lots of disposable and endo-urology instruments which makes urology surgeries less or minimally invasive.
Within the past decade, the field of Urology has been on a rapid rise with the development of extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy, laser & laparoscopic surgery, endourological advances and medical therapy for benign prostatatic enlargement. Indeed, Urology is one of the most exciting fields today.With rapid improvement in technology, anaesthesia and pain management most of the urology procedures can be done as day care.
